The traditional Quinceanera is a celebration in which the parents of a young girl officially introduce her to society as a young lady while at the same time marking the milestone of her on coming maturity. For many families the event is not only important for what it celebrates but is also an opportunity to display a family‚s culture.
" SWEET 16 OR QUINCEANERA TRADITION "
A Beautiful Gown accessorized by high heels, lipstick, a touch of jewelry with the elegant tones of a waltz playing in the background. An excited young girl wearing a jeweled crown, in the spotlight, being twirled by her father out of childhood and into adolescence. Her mother discreetly dabs tears from her eyes as family and friends applaud enthusiastically at the fairytale scene playing before their eyes. A Princess Rules The Night.
The Months, And Oftentimes Years, that are involved in planning and perfecting every detail of the party to make the event flawless is something that the family enjoys doing together. The planning, financing, ordering invitations to finding the right souvenir is the work to Create The Fairytale.
Although the style or " look" of the Sweet16 / Quince may vary dependant upon ethnic group, the basic elements are essentially the same. The most common being the hostess, lucky charms escorts, the court or court of honor and finally the honoree and her honorable escort, " caballero de honor" or Galan in Spanish. Hostess: The godparents, Grandparents, Parents or Guardians and any additional family members that will not be forming part of the Sweet Sixteen Court but will be formally introduced during the festivities.
These spots are usually reserved for youngest members of the family who will bring in the special gifts (lucky charms) such as the shoes, crown and in some cases the ring or any other special gifts for the birthday girl.
Traditionally the court consist of fifteen couples for sweet sixteen and fourteen couples for Quinceaneras who will stand with the birthday girl on her special day. The honoree may choose to have any number of couples. The birthday girl could also choose to have a court of all girls or all boys, or even just one maid of honor (Dama De Honor For Quinceanera). They are the supporting cast, friends and family members who are nearest to her in age and dearest to her heart. The court may also include flower girls, a Jr. Princess and a Jr. Prince, and others.
Our Sweet Sixteen Girl, generally accompanied by her honor escort (Caballero de honor for Quinceanera). As an honor escort, he will be accompanying the sweet sixteen girl throughout the festivities. He is generally a brother, cousin, uncle, friend, and in some cases, her boyfriend or even her father..
The reception is usually organized or put together with a specific theme in mind. This theme or main idea tends to imitate a popular movie, cartoon, fairytale or simply a wish of a great celebration.
The reception is generally divided into 7 steps.
Our MC master of ceremonies will introduce all of the family members of the honored. The godparents, grandparents, parents, lucky charms escort, the court and finally the young lady and her honor escort.
Our MC will then announce and explain the placement of the various lucky charms. Traditionally the father exchanges the slippers for the high heels and the mother places the crown on her head.
The father and daughter will be asked to stand together at the center of the dance floor and dance to the song that will officially welcome her into adolescence. Most of the time, this song is selected by the birthday girl and is usually a significant for the occasion or the relationship between father and daughter. Popular choices have been " Butterfly Kisses" by Bod Carlisle, " Daddy‚s Little Girl" by Al Martino or " De Nina A Mujer" by Julio Iglesias and " Mi Nina Bonita" by Armando Mansanero.
This dance is usually performed right after the birthday girl finishes dancing with her father. She is then asked to join her escort and the sweet sixteen court for a choreographed dance, often a waltz/Val‚s. But can also be a blend of traditional and modern music.
The court is lined up in an arch formation with the young men on the right side of the dance floor and the young ladies on the left. The parents will them hand each of the members of the court a candle, the mother distributes them to the ladies and the father to the gentlemen. The birthday girl will then light all of the candles and then blow them out after saying a few words of gratitude to those whom she has selected. After the candle ceremony the parents will light the candles on her cake and she will blow them out while everyone is singing happy birthday. ( On some occasions the birthday girl prefers to dedicate each one of the sixteen candles to special people in her life. She will call them out onto the dance floor, so they can hold the candle or she will dedicate them and place them by her cake).
This part may include the parents or (guardians) reading a thank you letter to the sweet sixteen girl ( Quinceanera ), and the guest for attending the evening. Traditionally the sweet sixteen girl ( Quinceanera ) reads out a thank you letter to family, friends and attending guests.
This consists of a Musical Madness Entertainment disc jockey and a Master of Ceremony ( DJ/MC ) providing you with the perfect balance of high energy and music that will create the perfect atmosphere that will have all your guest dancing into the night.
School Prom
High school traditions are plenty in the United States, and prom is one of the biggest ones. At the end of every year, a huge dance is planned for the departing senior class. Today's proms are usually coordinated by the "Senior Advisor" and the "Prom Committee" (a group of graduating seniors). Tradition dictates that the juniors (regardless of whether or not they are invited to attend) are the ones to plan, set up, and pull off, the prom. Throughout the year their main goal is to fundraise (because prom could be really expensive!) and plan for the prom.
" PROM TRADITION "
There are basically three parts to prom:
The " The Before" constitutes two parts:
Preparations, (getting dates (or not) getting dresses, tuxes, boutonnieres, corsages, limos, dinner reservations etc) and actually going to dinner. Guys and girls start asking around and getting dates anywhere from a couple of months, to a week or two beforehand. (And honestly, it‚s not always the guys that ask the girls. Preparations for girls usually begin a month or so before the prom. This includes buying dresses, shoes, accessories, and making hair, makeup and nail appointments, etc. For guys, preparation means renting tuxes. The next part, Dinner, has numerous possibilities. You can go with your date, in a group of couples, or as a group of singles if you don‚t have a date (and dates are not necessary).
Next is " The During", what happens at the prom. (By the way, prom is usually held in a ballroom at a Catering Hall, a Country Club, or even on a Boat.) Although prom is made out to be this HUGE ordeal, the prom itself is a pretty typical dance, except that everyone there is really dressed up. (It‚s so cool to see all these people that you see at school on a regular basis, in jeans and T-shirts, dressed up in ball gowns and tuxes.) There is a DJ or a live band, floor that is usually packed. If you have a DJ, you usually have a lot cool lights, strobes, and sometimes black lights or a fog machine. Then there‚s the presentation of the prom court, which is the main event at the prom. The prom court consists of an even number of guys and girls in the senior classes that were voted on by their peers. From the court, one girl and one guy are selected through another vote to be the prom " Queen and King" . The king and queen are usually presented with flowers, a crown and a scepter. After the court has been presented, there is a special dance (usually a slow jam) for them. This about sums up what happens at the prom.
" The After" prom there are usually plenty of parties to attend, which are thrown at people‚s houses or other places. If you don‚t attend a party, another popular choice is to go to an all-night coffee shop or restaurant with a group of people to sort of wind down. Many people‚s parents don‚t give them a curfew prom night, and so parties last until the break of dawn (and sometimes past that). After that, prom night is over. Dresses are put away, tuxes are returned and people sleep. Although prom may not be the magical night that many TV shows and books make it out to be, it is definitely a very special night.
